Compatibility check

1 warning

This recipe passes the Sine Design compatibility engine with no errors — the enclosure alignment and crossover are sensible for these drivers. Notes below are informational.

WarningSensitivity mismatch: SB Acoustics SB29RDC-C000-4 (93.0 dB) is 5.0 dB more sensitive than Scan-Speak 18W/8531G00 (88.0 dB). Pad the louder driver with an L-pad so the two levels match.
L-pad calculator — attenuate SB Acoustics SB29RDC-C000-4 by ≈ 5.0 dB. Open the crossover designer
NotePorted box for Scan-Speak 18W/8531G00: no port dimensions set, so port velocity / chuffing can't be checked. Add the port shape and size.

NoteDirectivity match (modeled): crossing Scan-Speak 18W/8531G00 and SB Acoustics SB29RDC-C000-4 near 1.19 kHz gives the woofer ka ≈ 1.50 (good match — the woofer is not yet beaming). This is a modeled estimate from T/S; it improves with measured off-axis data.
Crossover designer — directivity-matched crossover point. Open the crossover designer
NoteRemember baffle-step: a real cabinet loses ~3–6 dB of bass/midbass as output transitions from half-space to full-space. Budget baffle-step compensation (BSC) in the crossover, or expect a thinner-than-flat balance.

About this design

A floorstanding 2.5/2-way using two Scan-Speak 18W/8531G00 Revelator midwoofers in a 70 L vented box tuned to 30 Hz (twin 7 cm ports keep port velocity in check). The SB29RDC ring-radiator crosses in at 2.2 kHz on LR4. Two 8 Ω woofers wired in parallel present a nominal 4 Ω woofer load — pair with an amp comfortable into 4 Ω. Published Scan-Speak T/S are nominal; measure before finalising the box.
